According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, a homemaker is someone who manages a household.

This is such a simplified definition of all of the responsibilities and duties that surround homemaking.

Wha does the Bible say about homemaking? We can look at Titus 2:5 for a quick look.

To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

Titus 2:5 KJV

This verse points out the importance of homemaking, specifically as a role meant for women.

Proverbs 31 Woman and Homemaking

We can also go to Proverbs 31:10-31 where we read about the “Proverbs 31” woman. This picture of a godly woman is what many of us strive for.

This portion of verses shows us what we should aim for in our own homemaking journeys.

  • If you are a married homemaker, you should do your husband good, and his heart should safely trust in you. Proverbs 31:11
  • Welcome work and use your time wisely, refusing the urge to be lazy or waste time. Proverbs 31:27
  • Rise early enough so that your household runs smoothly throughout the day. Proverbs 31:15
  • If God provides a way for you to help meet your families financial needs, do so willingly and with a servant’s heart! Proverbs 31:24
  • Prepare for your family’s future needs- Proverbs 31:21

At the end of this passage of verses the Bible states that this woman’s children rise up and call her blessed and her husband praises her.

The secret to this woman’s “success”? Her fear of the Lord. In verse 30 it says that favour (charm) and beauty are vain. They have no true meaning. Instead this woman feared God. She was reverent of his holiness.

I pray that you find encouragement in this post and that you will strive to making your homemaking excellent instead of average.
